Experience

System Administrator, Chester County InterLink (CCIL). 1996-PRESENT
Responsible for system operations, security, ppp dialup pool, DNS, upgrades and emergency response. CCIL's systems support the non-profit's organization and serves more than 1500 of Chester County's citizens and partner organizations. Took a leadership role in the migration of all systems to the GNU/Linux operating system. Actively pursuing the integration of portal technologies. Led the successful deployment of WebMail, a web based email system using Horde IMP and the PostgresSQL DBMS.

Executive Director, CCIL. Aug. 1995-May 1996
As director I managed the day to day operations of the organization. My duties included overseeing meetings of operational team leaders, strategic planning, presentation of monthly public meetings, and managing financial obligations.

Systems Administrator and Network Operations Analyst, United Messaging. Aug. 1999-Aug. 2000
I was responsible for maintaining the operational status of the Application Service Provider (ASP) systems. As an analyst, I developed monitoring and testing processes to identify problems. Designed and presented a course for help desk and systems administrators on DNS and Bind.

Network Administrator, Netaxs . Aug. 1997-May 1998
My primary duties were to monitor and troubleshoot problems at the network operations center (NOC) for our 3 T3's, T1 and 56K customers, routers and Solaris servers.

Co-Founder and Network Administrator, Starry Skies Earth and Space Network
Manage the technical needs of this educational and public interest site focusing on Astronomy, Earth and Space Science.

Additional experience: Occasional consulting. Unix System Administration. Including integrating Linux gateways/firewalls/ipmasq/NAT, file servers, printer servers for LAN's of Windows machines. Hardware design and installation.

Open Source and Linux advocacy

Coordinated the Philadelphia Linux User Group December 1995 to November 1998. The group meets once a month. Duties included planning meetings, arranging speakers and announcing meetings.

I own and manage Tuxedo.org where Eric Raymond hosts his personal Web pages including the influential paper The Cathedral and the Bazaar and where the Halloween Documents were initially released.

Kathy Miles and I developed the content for a web site designed to make Linux easier for the inexperienced user, much of it was incorporated into Everyday Linux.

Education
Temple University Mathematics Major.

Senior studies included Numerical Analysis with Dr. Hill, modern algebra and statistics by Dr. John Allen Paulos. Both professors are successful authors of books in their field and Dr Paulos' book, Innumeracy, was a best seller. I also sat in on a number of graduate level courses and completed Masters level Math, but do not have the degree.

Assoc. of Science Degree in Mathematics/Science from Citrus College.

Principal subjects were Mathematics, Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Science, and Astronomy.
