                            IMP Webmail Migration

 CCIL User,

On September 14, 2006, CCIL will change from IMP Webmail to Squirrelmail. Only users who interact directly with the mail

server will be affected. Many users download their mail to their own PC using Mozilla Thunderbird or MS Outlook and will not be aware of this change immediately.

Our version of IMP Webmail was well out of date so we had to make a change. We changed to Squirrelmail rather than the

latest version of IMP Webmail.

Look around for the buttons - features are arranged differently but quite a few of us at CCIL have tried it already and found it to be basically self explanatory.

One question you may have is: "what's that column between the Date and Subject columns ?"

Answer: Between the Date and Subject columns is a small column that is unlabeled.

There could be a "+", "!" or an "A" in there.

"+" means that the message has attachments

"A" means that you have answered the message

"!" means message was marked as urgent!

There are many new features that we haven't looked at yet or at least not well enough that we're ready to explain them. We may send additional emails or we may post information on the CCIL homepage.

Security Screens

CCIL now uses a secured connection for our users to access their email via the web. Four screens are a combination of new
email software - Squirrelmail and new servers. Accepting the certificate should bypass at least one of the messages that you
are getting. Search SquirrelMail for the SquirrelMail Manual and plug-ins.

You may also get one or more alerts about "secure and non-secure items." We are working to resolve this ssue so that these
messages will not appear.

Address Book Read Only

LinuxForce asked Help Desk if they know if any user is having trouble with a read-only Address Book.

Users Can Not Login To CCIL

Several users couldn't dial in because of enforced 4 hour time restrictions and one of our servers being down. If the user
doesn't actively disconnect their session, the server keeps them logged in until the connection is dropped after 4 hours of
time for that day. Another problem was with software not sending a hang up command to the server. Poor physical line
connections will also exhibit this failure. We recommend users to upgrade their browser when graphics or symbols can't be
displayed on their screen.
