Two users are experiencing "This page cannot be displayed error". We are interested if other users are having the same problem. The following solution was offered, but did not correct the problem for those users.

"This page cannot be displayed" error

If you are getting a "Page cannot be displayed" error -- the one that comes up instantly and annoyingly -- then you must be using Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has a known bug that has to do with the way IE does DNS. This is an Explorer problem and not CCIL. There is considerable discussion on this topic in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. With Windows clients and a Linux server, you need to disable the dynamic DNS that Microsoft uses by doing this:

    For Windows 2000

  • Right-click on "My Network Places".

  • Choose Properties.

  • Right-click on "Local Area Connection".

  • Choose Properties.

  • Highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

  • Click on the Properties button.

  • Click the "Advanced" button.

  • Select the DNS tab.

  • Uncheck the box "Register this connection's addresses in DNS".

  • Close all those boxes and reboot.

    For Windows XP

  • Click Start

  • Hold cursor over "Control Panel"

  • when a list pops up hold cursor over "Network Connections"

  • when a 'list' pops up click on "Local Area Connection"

  • Choose Properties.

  • Highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

  • Click on the Properties button.

  • Click the "Advanced" button.

  • Select the DNS tab.

  • Uncheck the box "Register this connection's addresses in DNS".

  • Close all those boxes and reboot.

Our Help Desk has been suggesting users to download Mozilla Firefox 2. The following link http://www.mozilla.org/ will take you to Mozilla web site to download the browser. Firefox has a robust structure and is built on Netscape technology. You can customize the browser with extensions that you can make yourself or use someone else extension. It is not prone to some of the Internet Explorer bugs.
